Lake
Plastira
About seventy kilometres away from Karpenissi is Plastiras Lake,
a wonderful creation of man and nature. At a height of 782 m
on the mountains of Agrafa which are part of the southern Pindos
range, an artificial lake was made in 1959. The idea of creating
a dam where the waters of three rivers could be collected on
the plateau of Agrafa was conceived by Nikolaos Plastiras, a
general and politician, in 1925. His dream was realised and
nowadays you can see a beautiful lake with an extension of 25
sq.km. surrounded by picturesque villages. The mountains rise
around the lake with their peaks covered in snow most of the
year and the fir trees are reflected in the lake creating an
idyllic scenery. The hotels in the green villages offer great
views to the lake and the forests. Lake Plastira is the perfect
place to find tranquility and peace of mind.
