Explore
Zagorohoria, the villages northwest of Ioannina, on the southern slopes
of Pindos mountains, one of the most authentic and idyllic areas in
Greece. The beautiful stone houses, the old arched bridges, the little
Byzantine churches, the singing birds, the grey of the rocks and the
green of the trees, the crystalline waters and the scented air are unique
features of this region. Among the 46 traditional villages of Zagori, Megalo Papingo is one of the most beautiful, built at a height of 980m at the foot of an imposing peak of Tymphi, called Astraka, which belongs to north Pindos. Slate-roofed houses, cobbled streets, renovated mansions of the early nineteenth century and above all the Vikos Gorge on the south-west side of Tymphi invite you to live a unique experience in a spectacular landscape. Take time to explore the villages around the Vikos gorge, to walk along the stone paths and over arched bridges built by skilful local people and to reach viewpoints that offer excellent view to the gorge. |
